One of the biggest issues that small businesses have is finding the resources and ability to attract more customers without spending a fortune on advertising.
Indeed, this is always one of the top 3 issues raised by business owners across the world, when asked what their main problems are.
The problem is, in this globally connected world, there is so much investment money sloshing around that many supposedly small businesses, start-ups, or brands are backed by huge levels of capital that can afford to take the long view in marketing and buy their way to the top and to corner the market whilst making substantial losses in the short term while they are getting there.
And of course, this way of doing business causes a massive problem for you – a genuinely small and independent business – who cannot afford to compete.
So, if a genuinely independent business can\’t do this, what can you do instead?
And the answer to this question is the whole reason why we created ‘Slow Selling’ in the first place.
You cannot afford to compete with large businesses in the area of marketing, advertising and offers …
The only area where you can compete, and indeed, will almost always outperform bigger and better funded competition is in the area of quality, service and true value.
So your customers love you, come back regularly and tell all their friends about you.
The only problem with this is that almost everyone running an independent business knows that this makes sense, and everyone knows that this is the way they would like to run their business.
But very few people know how to actually do this.
And how to do it consistently and continually, whether you’re there or not.
After all, the marketing and advertising companies out there aren\’t going to tell you how to do this: they\’d much prefer you to spend your hard-earned money on their marketing and advertising services!
I can\’t repeat this enough.
The reason why so many small and independent businesses struggle to attract and convert customers quickly and profitably enough is not because you aren\’t good at what you do …
(indeed, we\’ve never worked with a company that isn’t trying to focus on quality and service),
it’s because you don’t have the right tools and systems in place to systematically deliver high levels of quality service and true value, day in, day out, no matter who’s running the business and who answers the phone.
The problem is, you are often so confused, and bombarded by ‘offers of help’ from marketing and support companies that you are never able to slow down, stop wasting money on ideas that don\’t really work, and instead put the few key steps in place to attract and win customers without spending a fortune in advertising.
And the ironic thing is that it\’s easier, cheaper, and more enjoyable to slow down and put the simple, powerful systems in place needed to do this properly, than it ever could be to try and win customers through marketing, advertising and deals.
So, if you\’re reading this blog about ‘Slow Selling’ for the first time, please do one thing: take the time to make sure you are signed up to our weekly email information list.
You know, what we have written here makes sense but also you know that you need to attract and win customers this week, the week after and the week after that.
The problem is often that you\’re so busy trying to keep going at the things you know you need to do every day that you can\’t find the time to slow down and do better and more effective things.
It\’s not just you, it\’s all of us.
The key to slowing down, and changing your actions from the old and ineffective model of marketing, advertising and offers, to the new and much more effective model of consistent customer attractiveness, reputation and loyalty is to remember that it takes time and can only be done step by step.
So, the first step is to make the commitment today:
